What a MONTH! We started by picking up trash on the FIRST Sunday then went for the GOLD on our RESTORATION WEEKEND, WOW! (details below)

So, how do we recover from, er... improve on a performance like that? SHOW UP! Yep, just SHOW UP at this month's RAC... remember, r... a... c... RAC. Riparian, Area, Cleanup! Now, a lot of you are seeing this newsletter for the first time and probably expect some kind of coherent, logical, impelling message delivered by a civic minded, sober, environmentally aware, conscientious individual... instead you get me. Sorry about that... and considering my CONSIDERABLE ineptitude at this particular job, I was hoping we could forgo the usual mind bogglingly tedious rendition of "it's time to do your part" and just proceed to the fun stuff.

FUN STUFF: This is totally radical, gang. We're going BACK to the site of our "Restoration Weekend" event to CHECK THINGS OUT! Cool, huh? Hey, I didn't say we wouldn't take a trash bag or two, just don't expect me to be the one "holding the bag." There's a rumor a few paddlers made it to highway 101 last time... After picking up YOUR bag of trash, you're welcome to join that club!

Interested? Think you could squeeze in some fun in the guise of environmental awareness? Show Up! To be really prepared for this event, DO NOT read the section below titled "How to Prepare for this Event." Absolutely NO ONE has ever read it and they all show up prepared, go figure! So, skip the advice below, show up, have fun, pick up trash and BE THE DIFFERENCE! (gosh, I hope I didn't plagiarize a sneaker ad)

RESTORATION WEEKEND

trashboat0405:

What does OVER TWO TONS of TRASH (232 bags), 28 shopping carts, 20 tires, 2 TV's, bicycles, a typewriter, 1 plastic swimming pool, a "Big Wheels" truck, one personal safe, a car bumper, 1 boom box, a propane tank and a handful of chairs have in common?

chaingang0405:

They are some of the things OVER 120 attendees of the Friends of Coyote Creek RESTORATION WEEKEND decided DIDN'T BELONG in our Waterway! What a weekend and what a Great Crowd. For those that didn't make it, you missed quite an event. We started early on Saturday, ended on Sunday, and sent boat after boat filled with eager participants downstream where that great big SUCKING SOUND was THEM, removing BOATS full of garbage from of the Creek. And that doesn't even touch on the GREAT FOOD and DRINKS we all enjoyed, Whew!

girlscouts0405:

It was a challenging undertaking accomplished only because of the amazing quality and determination of the volunteers who showed up. THANK YOU TO ALL for bringing the Coyote Creek one notch closer to recovery!

How to Prepare

Don't read this section! The number one way new volunteers prepare for our RAC is to IGNORE THIS SECTION. To mention showing up pre-lubed with suntan lotion, wrapping all water sensitive items in double ziplocks, remembering to take allergy tablets, bring a light weight, nylon wind breaker and / or a wide brimmed hat. Apply insect repellent "in case," stuff a small hand towel in your belt to dry hands or bring a tall bottle of dark beer to bribe the guy in charge of boats for one that doesn't leak... None of these things seem to have any value for new attendees. If you have accidentally read this section, oh well, we warned you. Perhaps you might survive, but we don't think much of your chances... sorry!
